David Nailed It in this Psalm |

David nailed it in this Psalm Some Scriptures say it better than others. This is the case here. This Psalm is so simple on the one hand but so powerful on the other. Look at it now. Psalms 4:1-8 KJV 1 To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer. 2 O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah. 3 But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him. 4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. 5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. 6 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. 7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased. 8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety. Lesson #1 David makes a distinction between the godly and the ungodly in this Psalm. In the Old Testament, the godly were those who made the proper sacrifices when they sinned. The ungodly were those who did not sacrifice properly when they sinned. This was universal for the Abrahamic Seed Group. David was part of this group. So are you, Gentile Christian, because you also are part of the Abrahamic Seed Group by the New Birth and Grafting. To put it differently, David was in the godly group because he, too, sacrificed properly when he sinned. Gentile Christians are in it also because you have accepted Jesus as God's final sacrifice for sin under Moses' law. Your acceptance of Jesus was demonstrated on God's side by your New Birth and Grafting. Lesson #2 David's approach to God based on what God had done for him in the past. Because thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress, hear me now when I call, O God of my righteousness: have mercy upon me now, and hear my prayer now. Here's what you do. Find, in your memory, a place where God brought you safely through the briars in the thicket. Remind him of it. Base your approach to God through this past reminder, just like David did. In other words, if God did it for you in the past, surely He will now. Lesson #3 See David's manifold confession of faith below.
Now make your own confession of faith like David did above. Study David's confession above and then make your confession fit you and your circumstances just like David.
Lesson #4
After making such a powerful declaration of faith David asked Him three things:
