The Genesis Scriptures and the Psalm above gave a field day to the author of the book of Hebrews.

In Hebrews 5:6, 7:17 and 21 below, the Psalm above is quoted word for word in our English Bible. In Hebrews 5:19 and 6:20, the author alludes to it without actually quoting all of it word for word.

Hebrews 5:10 KJV Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

Hebrews 6:20 KJV Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Hebrews 7:17 KJV For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Hebrews 7:21 KJV (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

Notice the word "forever" quoted in verse Hebrews 5:6, 6:20, 7:17, and 7:21.

Notice the phrase, "after the order of Melchizedek," used in all the references in Hebrews.

Notice again, 7:21 refers to the oath God gave to back the Melchizedek priesthood that He has now bestowed upon Jesus.

Where am I going with all this? What is the greatest benefit (for us Christians) that is hidden away in all the Scriptures above?

We will now allow the author of Hebrews to phrase the question and the answer to the above. First, he asks the question in Hebrew 7:11 and answers it in 7:23-25.

What further need was there that another priest should rise?

We all know about the order of Aaron. This was the Levitical system of the  Priesthood in the Old Testament. The Levite Priest were placed according to the Law of Moses only to the descendants of Levite, Aaron being the first High Priest.

But now, we are introduced to a new order, the order of Melchizedek. He was not placed by Moses' law but by God himself. He also was not subject to death but had an endless life. Furthermore, this placement of Jesus in to this special, Melchizedek form of High Priesthood was backed up by a separate, special oath of God. No Levitical priest was ever backed by an oath of God. This was only for Jesus.

In contrast, the Levitical priests were not able to have an endless life and therefore no continuous priesthood.. They all died but not Melchizedek and not Jesus!

Now here's the ironclad clincher!

Based on the fact that Melchizedek never died, Christ doesn't either. Since he continually lives now as our High Priest, we are guaranteed forgiveness of sins without interruption! In other words, we are continuously guaranteed forgiveness of sins as they happen!

He saves us to the uttermost! The Greek word translated by uttermost means final, complete and perfect. The Greek word translated to the in the expression, to the uttermost, is the Greek preposition ies. This preposition is used when a Greek wanted to show "how far" the force of a word reached.

In this case, the force of save them reaches to the uttermost, to the final complete and perfect state of salvation. He saves us to this point and does not fall even a fraction of an inch away from the final, complete and perfect forgiveness of all our sins.

Now to make Jesus' intercessory High Priest Ministry to us fail so that we can lose our salvation, here is what you must do.

You must kill Him! You must kill our High Priest or he must die some other way. But what other way?

Can any army on this earth storm the Holy of Holies beyond the skies and kill Him? Can any armada of fighting ships at sea set off a blast of rockets and missiles from their hulls that can blow our High Priest out of the Holy of Holies in the heaven itself, thereby killing Him? Did any Star Wars program ever develop to the point of aiming enough laser beams into that Holy of Holies where our Jesus, our High Priest works and ministers on our behalf, and melt the whole thing including Him?

Don't you get it? Until you can kill Jesus, he has a continuous High Priest ministry that keeps you saved unto the uttermost, up to and including the final, perfect complete forgiveness of sins as they happen!
