here. The Bible is plain! The Abrahamic covenant and the mercy of God function as synonyms. These two terms are used interchangeably. They are so intertwined. Moses said it
Moses said that when God keeps the covenant with them, he also keeps mercy with them. Look at the two Scriptures below.
Deut 7:9 9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; (KJV)
Deut 7:12 12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers: (KJV)
Mary, the mother of Jesus, said it
Moses is not the only one who links covenant and mercy together. Mary, the mother of Jesus, also linked them together.
Luke 1:50 50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. (KJV)
Luke 1:54-55 54 He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; 55 As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever. (KJV)
Did you see this? She recognized that His mercy is always on them, from generation to generation. Then she declared that he was helping Israel with the birth of her child because he was remembering his mercy.
Remembering what mercy? The mercy he spake to father Abraham and his seed forever.
The Abrahamic covenant and God's mercy function as a unit. When you have one you also have the other.
Zacharias said it
Now see how Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, viewed the linkage between Abraham's covenant and God's mercy.
Luke 1:72-7 72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; 73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, (KJV)
From the two verses above, we can easily see that Zacharias attributed the birth and office of Jesus and the birth and office of his son John to the linkage between the mercy, the covenant and the fact that these were included in the oath of God.
Now we say all that to say this; when you receive Christ, you are grafted into the Abrahamic covenant right along side Abraham himself. Consequently, you are grafted into this blessings of healing, prosperity and family well being. Furthermore, you are grafted into God's mercy since it comes with the Abrahamic covenant itself.
What about it? This means you and I do not have to beg and plead and beg God for mercy. We already have all of His mercy there is since we are grafted into a covenant, the essence of which, is mercy!
Open your Bible to Psalm 136. This Psalm will blow your mind. This is the "Mercy Psalm." There are 26 verses in this chapter. In each verse, the Psalmist included the expression, "His mercy endureth forever," as the reason God does things for his people. Think of this. He used the expression, "His mercy endureth forever," twenty six times.
The Mercy Psalm
In verses 1-3, the Psalmist declares that "his mercy endureth forever," because of who God is.
In verses 4- 9, the Psalmist declares that "his mercy endureth forever," because only God can do great creative wonders.
In verses 10-22, he declares that "his mercy endureth forever," because he defended his people against various heathen kings.
In verses 23-25, he declares that "his mercy endureth forever," because God remembers us even when our estate is low, He redeemed us from our enemies and gives food to all of us.
Finally, in verse 26, he says, "Give thanks to the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth forever.
You owe it to yourself and your family to study Psalm 136, "The Mercy Psalm." You will find your own circumstance in there. You will also find you already have the mercy you need. You just didn't know it. You just didn't know how to tap into it.
