We Pay Through the Nose for Search Engine Placement
The Search Engines (Yahoo, MSN Search, Google, Alta Vista, AOL are all "Pay to be seen" businesses. Sure, you can get "spidered" maybe, but you will probably never be "indexed," If you are at all it could be years. Why? Because now they operate on Pay Per View or Pay Per Click or Pay Per Something Else.
Our website went online in early 1996. This was back when there weren't many of us on the Internet. Until just recently, our website was in the top 10 search results on Yahoo when you searched for "faith healing." Now, it doesn't show up at all. Why? Because we must pay Yahoo to put us there.
But you say, "I found you on Yahoo on the first page of search results. How can you say, Jay, that you are no longer on Yahoo?" Yes, you can find me on Yahoo's first page of search results using many search terms, but this is because we PAY TO BE THERE.
You can also find me on the first page of search results on Google, MSN Search etc. Why? Because we pay hundreds of dollars per month to just get seen. I mean hundreds of dollars per month just to get seen.
The best sites now are those who pay through the nose, not necessarily the best content
You see, it no longer matters who has the best, most content intensive website covering a given subject. What matters is simply this: Are you willing to lay hard cash out to them to show your site at all, but even more, to get it seen where it has a chance to get someone to click into it.
Yes! We pay and pay and pay! And the price for getting seen just keeps going up and up and up. Did you know that Google now generates 74% of all the traffic for all websites on the Internet? Yahoo, which used to be king, now splits what's left of the traffic with MSN Search. Finally, all the other engines put together split up the fractions of what's left from these Big Three.
